Ladakh was officially opened for tourism in 1974 and since then it has attracted and amazed people from all over the world especially renowned for trekking. Spread across 59143 km2 the land is known for its clear blue sky, breath-taking views, century old living monasteries and snow-capped mountains and thrilling adventure. Ladakh is one of the highest inhabitants in the world and their geographical feature mainly consists of high plains and deep valley settlements which are primarily based on glacier water. The whole civilization of Ladakh is nestled between south-eastern Karakoram, Ladakh and Zanskar range. One can find the footprints of the famous silk route and Leh was one of its crucial trade centres. Known for its cold winter, the snow bound land remains cut from the rest of the country for almost 6 months during winter. The majority of the population follows Vajrayana form of Tibetan Buddhism and the rest are Shia muslims and followed by Sunni and a little fraction of Christian population. As Ladakh is located at 2 crucial conflicted international borders, one can find lots of military presence during their travel. There are 5 major rivers in Ladakh which are Indus, Zanskar, Shayok, Suru and Siachen. The main regions of Ladakh are Changthang, Nubra, Zanskar, Kargil, Sham and Leh. The best time to visit Ladakh is between April and September. From the past few years walking on frozen rivers known as Chadar trek is also becoming popular within the Indian crowd.
